Awards

Each year the 'Door County Hot Sauce Society' issues the 'Refrigerated Toilet Roll Award of Excellence' to ONE establishment in the area, as a recognition of their contribution to the art of culinary suffering (of the GOOD kind!)

If we feel there hasn't been a worthy contributor to the cause, then we may refrain from issuing any awards in a given year.

On very rare occasions we may issue more than one award, this has not happened to date.

If you feel your establishment has something to offer, and you would like to be considered for an award, please contact us at tnsweb @ sbcglobal.net stating who and where you are and what your organization is doing to further the spicy food and/or hot pepper cause. (scroll down for award criteria).

Recipients of awards may request a copy of the certificate from us, and/or a framed certificate/wall display.

Award Criteria -
  1. The 'spicy' food we sample must be a permanent menu feature and not just a short-term special
  2. The sample must be prepped in-house and not be an 'out of the bottle' sauce in its entirety. So it's OK to use a bottled sauce as part of the ingredient, but it must not be used for the entire sauce.
  3. Restaurants / bars showing more commitment to spicy food preparation in general, score higher points. So if there are multiple hot sauce items on the menu, then we award extra points.
  4. Quality and flavor - obviously we score good tasting sauces, Chiles etc, not just 'hotness' or heat level.
  5. We do like our heat - though not necessarily competition level heat which is generally unpalatable.
  6. We are always open to bribes, incentives and other forms of corruption.
